Son of Joseph and Margarette Upperdine –born Chadsmoor, Staffs.

Employement: coal miner.

Had served in South Staffs Regiment before the war, but in 1913 was workingas a coal miner. Re-enlisted at outbreak of war. Embarked to France on 12 August 1914.
