    Circumstances of Capt Shakerley's death
    On 10th March 1915 Capt Shakerley was in command of an assault party which came under heavy machine gun fire but he managed to get within 5 yards of the enemy trench before he was shot dead. He was Mentioned in Despatches by Field Marshall Sir John French on 22 Jun 1915 for gallant and distinguished conduct in the field.
